Laurie Jones is our featured Team Member this Month. Laurie's background prior to joining our Valley Veterinary Service team is as an Educator, having graduated from Slippery Rock with a teaching degree. Her interest in animals & volunteer experience led to us hire her as a Vet Assistant. Now a graduate of K-9 College, Laurie is a Certified Dog Trainer. She is still a teacher--she just has furry pupils now!

Spanky is our Pet of the Month

We are proud to feature Spanky as our Pet of the Month! Spanky has severe allergies to many pollens & household environmental allergens. Certain breeds are more prone to develop allergies. Spanky is a Shih Tzu. Skin & ear infections used to occur frequently. Spanky’s owners had him allergy tested with a simple blood sampling. An allergy serum was produced uniquely for his allergic condition. We give him his allergy injections at Valley Veterinary Service, but some pet owners give the painless injections themselves. Spanky is now comfortable & happy to be itch free! Make an appointment to talk to our doctors about allergy testing of your itchy pets.

Do you want to walk your dog but just cannot control him or her? We recommend dog training for every size & breed of dog; no dog is too old to train. The next best thing to obedience classes is the use of the Gentle Leader head halter. Even a small child or frail senior is able to walk a dog this way because the head is controlled much like a huge horse is controlled by a head halter. Call or stop by the office to sign up for class, or for a demonstration of the Gentle Leader. It works great!

This week is Be Kind to Animals Week!

Join the event that’s been celebrated every year since 1915 -- American Humane Association’s Be Kind to Animals Week. In this annual tradition, we commemorate the role animals play in our lives, promote ways to continue to treat them humanely, and encourage others, especially children, to do the same. While Be Kind to Animals Week is celebrated only once a year, we should strive to always be kind to animals every day. What is the kindest thing you've done for your pet today?
